Habitat for Humanity’s Home Builders Blitz: Habitat for Humanity logoOn June 4-6, the NFC members took part in Habitat for Humanity’s Home Builders Blitz. The Blitz is an annual event during one week of the year when builders, framers, and material suppliers volunteer to help build homes across the country for families in need of affordable housing. READ MORE  If you are interested in supporting this cause, contact staff to donate.

Weyerhaeuser’s Framer Series Lumber Wood & Mill Tour: The Weyerhaeuser North Carolina Timberlands Office Training Center welcomed framers May 21-23 for an opportunity to walk through the forest and learn how Weyerhaeuser grows logs followed by a sawmill tour to learn how Framer Series and other SYP products are manufactured.

Wisconsin Regional Meeting: On May 3, Madison-area framers gathered for a presentation by Jim Vogt, P.E. of SBCA staff about the documents included in an SBCA jobsite package. There was good discussion and Jim answered a lot of questions. Regional Meeting in conjunction with Contractor’s Day at the LBM Expo: On February 14, NFC members held a regional meeting in conjuction with Contractor’s DAy at the LBM Expo in Providence, Rhode Island. Highlights of the day included the educational seminar “How to Improve Your Contractor Customers’ Cash Flow, & Yours Too!” and a presentation by Jon Anderson, president and publisher of Random Lengths. Wisconsin Regional Meeting: On February 1, Ryan Burns from Baer Insurance talked about common pitfalls framers face in the industry. He spoke from his perspective as a general contractor and an insurance agent. 2017

NFC Webinar – Understanding Jobsite Silica Enforcement: OSHA’s new crystalline silica standard, which went into effect on September 23, has raised many questions for framers. On November 15, NFC Safety Committee Chair Ken Shifflett provided a brief overview of the topic and the FrameSAFE resources the NFC has developed to assist subscribers in implementing their own exposure control plan. Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting: On October 3, Modu Tech hosted a framer-only meeting that included an update on FrameSAFE and other NFC activities, an insurance presentation, an update on fire issues in wood buildings, as well as a presentation and demo on OSHA’s Silica Standard. The morning meeting was followed by lunch and networking. Read more.

Wisconsin Regional Meeting: On August 24, City of Madison building inspector, Steve Rewey, talked with 20+ framer about the most common reasons framers get red tagged and how you can prevent it from happening in the future. Read more.

Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting: On March 22, the NFC welcomed more than 50 guests at the MBIA Builder Mart in Timonium, Maryland. Framers, general contractors, builders, skilled subcontractors and potential members learned about the latest NFC activities and developments with the FrameSAFE program

NFC Silver Sponsor Huber Engineered Woods provided a presentation and NFC Supplier members, including Advanced Contractors Supply LLC, CLP Systems, DAP Products, FastenMaster, Lumbermen Associates, Magni Rotating Telehandlers, Simpson Strong-Tie and Southern Carlson showcased their products and services and provided brief insights into what their organizations are doing to support professional framers and skilled subcontractors nationwide.

Additional supplier non-members who also participated included Barnett Forest, Chesapeake Region Safety Council, Choice Stairways, Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) - Division of Labor and Industry and Parksite.

Participants also listened to a presentation from Kim Betancourt, Director of Economics & Multifamily Research/Multifamily Mortgage Business for Fannie Mae. Networking and discussions on safety and the framing industry closed off the day’s event.  

 

California Regional Meeting: On February 14, the NFC welcomed framers, GCs, suppliers and potential members to the Simpson Strong-Tie Factory and Training Center in Riverside for the NFC’s first regional meeting in California where participants toured the facility, learned about the NFC and FrameSAFE, networked and enjoyed lunch. Thank you to the NFC Corporate Non-Framer Members and non-members that sponsored the event. Texas Regional Meeting-Focus on FrameSAFE: On November 19, a group of framer-only members met in a comfortable and relaxed environment to discuss FrameSAFE in greater depth. Framer-only attendees held a lively discussion on the use of FrameSAFE, focused on challenges, suggested topics for future toolbox talks and honed in on ways to streamline the implementation process. The dialogue also centered on skilled subcontractors and steps needed by framers to get their subs on board with FrameSAFE. Thank you for joining us in Arlington, TX on November 19. 2015

All Aboard MBIA Builders Mart 2015: On March 25, Scott Stevens (Modu-Tech), Bruce Jones (Bruce L. Jones Construction) and Kenny Shifflett (Ace Carpentry) represented NFC with a booth at a local builders show in Timonium, MD. (See photo, pictured left to right: Scott Stevens, Ole Ramerirez of RFC Framing, Bruce Jones and Kenny Shifflett.) Attendees were able to view a presentation about NFC as well as examine NFC's FrameSAFE Safety Manual Template and Toolbox Talks. NFC was well received and our members were able to touch base with 40-50 framers, GCs and suppliers, and distribute at least 20 applications to potential members.
