Technology Committee

Purpose Statement

“Technology FOR FRAMERS, BY FRAMERS” - The Technology Committee will serve the NFC and its members. The purpose of this committee is to research and/or develop technologies applicable to the framing industry. The committee will collaborate with NFC sponsor members to determine the best, innovative software and product technology as it relates to the framing industry.  The work of this committee will be delivered to all members with the intention to improve productivity, safety, quality and profits.

2020 Committee Priorities

Define and segment the businesses within the committee. We will be taking a look at the following:

  • The business type: single-family framer, multi-unit framer, labor-only framers, turnkey framers.
  • The company background: companies with years of framing experience, new entrants to the framing market, building material suppliers adding framing to their businesses, companies with little field experience, GC and framer companies.
  • The climate these companies operate in. We have companies all over the US and in every different climate zone. Many field practices change based on climate.

Next we will ask some probing questions about these companies:

  • The company strengths: what they do best.
  • The company weaknesses: what they need to improve.
  • We will review:
    • Present: technology currently being used within their business.
    • Future: where their company is headed and how they plan to get there.
    • The best path forward: how to use new technology and learn new skills to position their company in a valuable area of the market. And finally we will experiment with and review the technology being used by these companies.
  • The Application of New Technology: With a basic understanding of what each company does, how they do it, their strengths, their weaknesses, their goals and their future objectives, we can finally look at the best technology to implement. During the implementation/use of the new technology, we will ask for user feedback and ratings.
  • The Value of Technology: We will survey the companies within the committee, list the technology being used and document their pros and cons.
